Thank You, Veterans!

(I’m catching up on some personal blog posts.  This post originally appeared on the Cut at Home blog on November 12, 2013.)

Today I want to say “Thank You Veterans!”   I am so very grateful to each hero and their families for their service and sacrifice for our Country.

This scrapbook page honors my favorite Veteran, my brother-in-law, Tom.   The pictures of him were taken as he returned from an Honor Flight earlier this year.

The dimensional stars on the page were made with the “Star” folding die by Nellie Snellen.  I just love these stars!   I made the stars by cutting two strips using the die.  These are folded and attached together to form a star shape.   The original design of the star is a 6-pointed star, but I modified it to make it a more traditional 5-pointed star by removing just a small section of one of the strips. These photographs show the original six-pointed star, and the portion I removed to make a five-pointed star

Whether you make the 5-pointed or 6-pointed version of the star, you will need foundation pieces so that the star will keep its shape.  I used the Nellie Snellen 5-point star shape dies for this.  It is a very cute set – the largest star is only 2.25” across.

The background paper is a piece of heavyweight handmade paper.  It came with the rough, deckled edges.  I added a little red and blue color with a Darice craft marshmallow and some Memento inks.  I stamped the sentiments with Black Versafine ink, and embossed them using Ranger Super Fine clear embossing powder.  The stars and the backgrounds are from red, white and blue metallic papers by The Paper Cut.

    • There are a lot of cute shapes in the Nellie Snellen folding dies. Good luck catching up with your other blogs — as you could see I was way behind on my posting, so I guess it worked out.
